Today through the end of the week we are checking out information in the PC lab for our mini research paper. You will open the link below and print out the pages to fill out while you are on the computer for the next couple days.
Microsoft Word: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10508043/Research%20Paper/Preliminary%20Research%20-%203%20Topic%20Choices.doc From this PRELIMINARY research, you will determine what your ACTUAL topic will be. Once that is determined, you CANNOT change it, so be sure you have enough GOOD info to get a 3 page paper with a Works Cited of at least 4 sources. Good luck! Have fun. Don't mess around while you should be working! -Mrs. Coller

Today ELA watched the rest of OF MICE AND MEN, the movie. It was heart-breaking. Then we discussed some symbolism behind the characters and the book in general. On Wednesday, we will be having a quick review quiz.
Have a great "snow night"! -Mrs. Coller Today in class we discussed the topics that we could research based on our reading of Steinbeck's novella. Below are some of the topics we brainstormed.
Keep in mind that some of them may not work because of the limitations of our internet searches here at school. Others may not work because they are too broad or too narrow. YOUR JOB is to find the topic that works best for you AND to eventually write: *a valid question to answer *a detailed outline of the paper that you will write *a two-page paper answering the question in a way that is not too vague - with parenthetical documentation *a Works Cited page that is correctly formatted with four valid and reliable sources TOMORROW and THURSDAY we will be watching Of Mice and Men, the movie! (It is good, but the movie in your head was probably better.) Have a great night! -Mrs. Coller Our homework for the day was to read chapter 5 in Of mice and Men. You'll find it VERY interesting if you do. The original plan was to have a quiz and homework questions for this chapter in class today, but I thought of the stress some of you may be feeling because of the mid-term on Wednesday and Thursday. By the way - that counts for 10% of this marking period grade.
So we ended up studying for the test instead. You need to know the following: *nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions *Independent vs. Dependent (also called subordinate) Clauses *active vs passive voice *Colons and semi-colons *Homonyms *Correct quotation punctuation *Literary terminology or elements If you have any questions, go online and see if you can study OR come to see me tomorrow. -Mrs Coller We read the first chapter of Of Mice and Men out loud together, then read chapter 2 on our own for homework. Of course, that means there was a quiz on chapter 2. If you missed it, be sure to get with me and take it before the end of the marking period, which is fast approaching.
Worksheets for chapters 1 and 2 (done in class): Today, we are reading chapter 3 silently in class, so, of course, there is a homework assignment that goes with it. Have fun reading.! (Here is a little advice: This book is easy and fairly interesting, so READ IT and READ IT when it is DUE, so you can get some awesome grades on your report cards. Today we learned about John Steinbeck and took notes on his life and time. Yes, boys and girls, that means there will be a quiz tomorrow.
