You DRESS to go out with friends, but you may not wear the same clothes if you were going to hang out with your grandparents. You might have noticed that you READ differently when you are looking for information and when you are reading a story. That's normal. As writers, we also WRITE differently depending on the purpose of our written word.
Are you explaining? Are you narrating? Are you describing? Are you convincing? |
NarrativeNarrative writing is most likely written from the first person point of view and is organized chronologically.
DescriptiveDescriptive writing paints a powerful picture with words. This starts with the look of something and dives into the deepest meaning of it.
ExpositoryExpository writing is factual. This is void of opinion and description. Instead, it focuses on definition, comparison, direction, and explanation.
PersuasivePersuasive writing is a debate on paper. You are to express an opinion about a topic or "take a side", using facts and statistics to prove your opinion to the reader and dissuade the reader from believing the other side of the argument.
