Today, we discussed Walt Whitman and the idea of democracy. American ideals such as democracy pervade throughout his poetry. He talks about the common man in a universal style. The "I" in his poetry is not an individual "I," but a collective "I." Every American united as one (YAY!).
His poetry is SO inspirational, that the main character of "Daughter of Invention" becomes inspired by his poetry. We will read this story in class on Monday. I will be grading your short story introductions over the weekend. Also, your annotated bibliographies are graded and you will be receiving them on Monday so you can revise them for a better grade! Have a great weekend, Mr. Francisco
