We all heard about Jurgis beating up Connor, the man who raped his wife and forced her to go to Mrs. Henderson's house of prostitution. Now, in chapter 16, we see that Jurgis is sitting in jail. The problem is: jail is nice and cozy compared to how he had been living. He is fed regularly and has strong brick walls around him all the time. But his family, on the other hand, does not get the comfort of prison. They are left with no man to provide for them and no way of knowing where Jurgis is.
Your homework for the night is to explain the change in Jurgis' life since he found out that Ona was raped. You have two options for how to do this: Option A: Write a 15 line poem that has a definite rhythm and rhyme scheme. Option B: Write five brush stroke sentences. Make sure you utilize all five kinds. If you can't remember the types of brush strokes, click on the GRAMMAR link in the left hand menu of this website. Scroll down to see all the brush strokes. Have a good night! -Mrs. Coller
