The Dickenson family portrayed key aspects to survival during their house fire. The family, four people total, showed survival techniques by escaping the burning flame. Dickenson also used a plan to escape the natural disaster once again exemplifying how the family worked towards survival. The family used their assets to work towards survival. An example of an asset they used would be water from the fire hydrant and items in the house that aided the family's escape. As a whole, the Dickenson's showed amazing survival skills to escape the house that was aflame.

Jessica Buchanan and Poul Thisted were captured by pirates on October 25, 2011. Both Buchanan and Thisted were on a trip to help people in Somolia. Neither person suffered any injuries and news reports say that they believe this is because neither person did anything to prove they deserved punishment while they were held hostage. Also, both wanted to survive because they couldn't dare leave their family behind. Seeing as how their family was expecting them back, both held on to hopes of being rescued and their hopes prevailed when they saw the U.S. military and the military declared that they were free and could once again encounter the loving and warm grasps of their families! The survival tactics proven by the Buchanan and Thisted were no less than extraordinary!

Jessica Buchanan and Poul Hagen Thisted were kidnapped in October by Somali pirates. The SEAL Team 6 unit rescued them from the pirates in Somalia. The two hostages survived by holding on to the hope that they would be rescued or set free. They pushed through their life threatening medical conditions by thinking of who they would go home to after they were freed. They also stayed alive by doing what the pirates told them to do and not planning an escape, which would have been extremely risky. The two were found safe and mostly unharmed after the rescue mission was carried oout.

When most people think about suvival they automatically think of people surviving desperate situations. But what the animals? After the meltdown at the Fukushima Nuclear Plant in Japan last year, many people abandoned their pets thinking that they would return to their homes in a short period of time. Sadly, this was not the case. Many animals were left stranded in their homes; left to fend for themselves. These animals used their natural survival instincts, that many people fail to possess, to help them through this tough situation. I can also imagine, though I do not know for sure, that these animals waited in hope and love for their companions to come and save them. Finally, after a long very wait, the government decided to help the livestock animals, but they also decided that if it came to indangering a human life that they would not return to the exclusion zone to save them. Many of these animals have been left to survive on their own and, to the despair of many, now most of the animals left are dying. The animals have been stranded for almost a year now, so they obviously have the same will to survive as humans do.

Two weeks ago Graceann Rumer steered a bus full of kids to safety after the bus drives heart-attack. It was around 3:30 when the bus drive collapsed, obstructing the break peddle. She managed to safely make a U-turn and completely stop the bus. Even though this is a tragedy because the bus driver did die, Graceann did survive when most people would just panic.

Jessica Buchanan and Poul Hagen Thisted were taken captive by Somalian pirates back in October. They were held hostage in a small desert hide-out in Somalia. Time was pressed though because Buchanan's medical condition was believed to be life threatening. Wednesday evening, american time, SEAL team 6 executed a risky mission to rescue the two hostages. The team executed the mission with great persision, rescueing the hostages and killing all the pirates without any injuries to the team or the hostages. Buchanan and Thisted survived aganist all the odds for three months. Only they know how they kept going all that time, but they survived it and our safe now. As for SEAL team 6, they undertook another dangerous mission and accomplished the task at hand.

Thursday, January 26th bodyguards of Prime Minister Julia Gillard had to escort her out of an event marking the anniversary of British colonization in Austrilia. About 200 protesters marched at the nation's Parliment house burning the Austrialian flag and waving vulgar signs. The prime Minister stumbled during the race to the car and lost her shoe, which protesters grabbed after the rowdy demonstration in the capitol. After suriving a crowd of angry protesters Gillard didn't seem to care about the lost of her high-heeled blue suede shoe. Multiple people talked about holding the shoe for ransom or selling it on eBay, but later that day Gillard gained information that the shoe would be returned. The Prime Minister said "It really doesn't worry me, I'm in a fortunate situation where I'm a women with a few pairs of shoes. Being the leader of a country can be very dangerous, luckliy the Prime Minister survived with no injuries.

Taking a stand at the podium, Holocaust survivor Henry Greenbaum, 83, began to share his fantastic tale of survival. Green Baum’s story perfectly fits the idea of survival, from clinging to life and enduring the worst. At the youthful age of 13, in 1941, he was sent into forced labor at a munitions factory; he experienced long ruthless workdays, no pay, and extremely unsanitary conditions. Over the course of the years captured, Greenbaum and his sister attempted escaping, ultimately resulting in his sister’s demise and leaving him critically wounded. The light at the end of the tunnel finally came when a U.S. tank arrived, like super hero swooping in to save the day, and released him from the horrid lifestyle, in 1945. Henry Greenbaum endured the unthinkable, everyday was a battle to survive and today he still shutters at the terrifying memories. Greenbaum’s tale illustrates the ideals of survival, down to the last detail and today he lives to tell his story.

As many of you may know the cruise ship, Costa Concordia, fell on its side of the coast of Giglio, Italy. Many of the remaining survivors of this devastating tragedy had to make quick decisions to see another day. Survivors struggled to prevail because of the metal obstacles that stood in the way. Great swimming techniques were a necessity to survival. Once done with swimming out of the boat, they had to find land to escape to before the waves would bring them under for good. Now, if you have survived all this, you will have to deal with psychological trauma and loss of baggage, friends, and family for the rest of your life. The government plans on compensating over fourteen thousand dollars to the survivors for what they are going through, along with full reimbursement for the passengers. Divers today are still searching for survivors, so far 12 have been found dead.

On January 25th, two very brave individuals, after being kidnapped and held hostage for 3 months, were rescued by U.S. Navy SEALS and flown to the safety of a U.S. military base. Their names are Jessica Buchanan and Poul Hagen Thisted, and they were aid workers that were working for a Danish demeaning group. Despite being held in poor conditions, and Buchanan's possible Kidney infection, the two managed to hang on to their fragile lives for enough time to be rescued. The SEALs that rescued the two aid workers faced pirates armed with heavy weapons, and the possible threat of explosives. Despite these odds, the determined team was able to rescue Buchanan and Thisted without a single U.S. casualty. In times where hope seems to be gone, our bravery and willingness to hang on to unfavorable odds is what keeps us alive.
