Hey guys! Today we talked about the significance of the shell. How it represents order and reminds the kids of the men with the megaphone, something from their community that has power over them. The conch acts in much the same way. It called to them and brought them together as a group.
We also discussed the first impressions we had about Ralph, Jack, and Piggy. We do not know a lot about these boys yet, but Ralph seems like a good enough kid who makes a few mistakes and is getting credit (unintentionally) for Piggy's ideas. We seem to agree that Jack is arrogant and wants to be in charge. Piggy is the brains of the operation and develops all the ideas that Ralph gives to the rest of the group. Piggy would make a great leader if he was confident enough to talk to the whole group and not just whisper to Ralph. -Mr. Phillips
